After a painful 1-0 loss to Senegal, handing the West Africans a slot in the playoffs of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Uganda Crane’s players off loaded the team bus and wandered into their hotel with their heads shaking left to right.
This was more conspicuous of the 28 year old Martin Mutumba, as his body language did little to mask his disappointment at continued limited game time for Cranes. Mutumba came from the bench against Senegal in Marrakech – where he hardly made an impact after replacing Hamis Kiiza in the 81st minute, apart from a telling free kick into the area. He last appeared in the 1-1 draw against Angola.
The young energetic Mutumba is very skeptical about his future in the Cranes team. Addressing one of the presses’ questions, Mutumba said, “I played for about five minutes only. So what should I say?”
He sadly added “I touched the ball about two times I think. I’m not happy, of course not.”
Mutumba further confessed, “You see, the Swedish league is a high league and hopefully I can go to a bigger league after this season, I know how good I am.”
He continued to say, “I’m just disappointed. I don’t know about my future in the Cranes.”
When Micho was tasked to respond to Mutumba’s sentiments, he reasoned, “May be it is not easy to acclimatize from his league in Europe to the one here, but we shall sit and see how we can get that sorted, but Mutumba seemed to have been on another terrestrial setting at the time.”
But Mutumba still insisted, “They don’t need me, they have other players who can do the job, I think. So, I actually don’t think they need me that much.”
When he was asked if he would honour another call-up, Mutumba said, “I don’t know really right now.”
But Micho revealed that he still has a big chance for the 2015 Nations Cup qualification, just like all other players.
Could the AIK regular be having trouble with the team mates in moving along with his style of playing?
