In a significant revelation during his End of Year address, President Museveni disclosed that he recently held a meeting with renowned artist Eddy Kenzo.
The president conveyed that he was briefed by Kenzo on critical issues concerning copyrights and broader reforms to enhance the efficiency of the entertainment industry.
During the address, President Museveni stated, “There’s a boy called Eddy Kenzo, who came and briefed me about their issues. The government will help them to protect their innovations. Despite challenges, the sector thrives due to prevailing peace.”
This acknowledgment signifies a proactive stance by the government in addressing the concerns of artists and fostering an environment conducive to the growth of the entertainment sector.
Eddy Kenzo, representing the interests of artists through the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), actively engaged with the government to push for amendments to the Copyright Law. The primary goal was to ensure that artists receive fair compensation and equitable benefits for their creative endeavors. This collaborative effort aimed at streamlining the industry has showcased the resilience and unity of the artist community in Uganda.
The positive outcome of these engagements is reflected in the artists’ successful presentation of their proposals in Parliament. The government has taken appropriate measures to move forward, initiating the drafting of a bill that holds the potential to bring about substantial changes in favor of the artists.
This development serves as a ray of hope for the artistic community, signifying that their longstanding grievances are finally gaining the attention and consideration they deserve.
