British-Ugandan actor Daniel Kaluuya was recently honored with a statue in London’s Leicester Square, depicting his memorable role in the psychological thriller Get Out.

The statue captures a pivotal scene from the 2017 film, where Kaluuya’s character is hypnotized and sinks into “the Sunken Place,” a symbolic, metaphysical void.

At the unveiling ceremony, Kaluuya captivated many onlookers, not just with his accomplishment but with his proud embrace of his Ugandan roots. Wearing a pendant of the Buganda Kingdom, the actor made a strong public statement about his cultural heritage.

Kaluuya has always been open about his Ugandan ancestry. Born to Ugandan immigrant parents in London, he frequently expresses pride in his African identity.

He has previously spoken in interviews about how his upbringing was deeply influenced by the traditional values of the Buganda Kingdom, which his mother instilled in him from a young age.
