The 93rd Academy Awards (Oscars) went down on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Union Station, Los Angeles and the Dolby Theatre (Hollywood & Highland Center) in the United States of America.
The 2021 Oscars honored movies released in 2020 after almost 2years of pandemic lockdowns that upended movie-making across the globe.
Ugandan and British-born movie star, Daniel Kaluuya was among the stand-outs on the incredible awarding evening as bagged the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ trophy.
Daniel Kaluuya took home his first statuette, for best-supporting actor for his turn in “Judas and the Black Messiah” movie.
Upon receiving the accolade, Daniel Kaluuya revealed that he was gratified with God’s guidance and protection throughout his career.
He also appreciated the enormous support from his Mum, sister, niece, and friends in both London and Kampala.
“Thank you, God, I can’t be here without your guidance and protection. For my mum, thank you so much for pouring into me. You gave me everything…Love to my sister, love to my niece, my friends, my family, everyone I love from London to Kampala,” Daniel Kaluuya said.
Kaluuya further recognized the exceptional role played by his mother and father when they had intercourse that saw him come on earth.
“My mom and dad, they had sex. It’s amazing, man. I’m here. So, I’m happy to be alive,” Kaluuya added.
His mother and sister who were watching from London, immediately cameras rolled over them as they had a teary pride to a confused expression and head-in-hands mortification.
Majority have since ranked Kaluuya as one with the best Curveball acceptance speech at the event.
In the ‘Actor In A Supporting Role’ category, Daniel beat fellow actors such as; Sacha Baron Cohen (The Trial of the Chicago 7), Leslie Odom, JR (One Night in Miami), Paul Raci (Sound of Metal), Lakeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah).
The event was maskless, though attendees abided by all the Covid-19 safety protocols set by Hollywood including; vaccinations, testing, distancing, and masks when the cameras are off.
Ugandans continue to shower the UK-based actor with a variety of congratulatory messages on social media applauding him for representing the country with such distinguished success.
Daniel Kaluuya was born on 24 February 1989 in London and brought up by his mother, a Ugandan immigrant, in a public housing estate in the British capital. His father stayed in Uganda.
Congratulations Daniel Kaluuya!
