standardmedia.co.ke Facebook has infiltrated almost every aspect of our lives, including our beauty cabinets. The social media company is now selling nail polish in its campus store in California, called “Social Butterfly Blue.” The polish bottles are covered with butterflies, channeling that “social butterfly” theme. According to Mashable, Facebook has a whole offering of branded items, of which the nail lacquer is just one part.
BigEyeUg team caught up with Uganda’s Jazz maestro ISAIAH KATUMWA for a little chitchat. Here is a relay of the conversation. 1. Give us a brief background of your musical career? I would be celebrating 13 years since my first album in 2000. I am a self-taught saxophonist who has not studied it in any way. I have a traditional folk music background from school as well as singing but professionally I celebrate the fact that I have almost played all types/genres in Uganda since 1995 when I started out with WAKA WAKA band. 2. Why did you choose to…
Kampala’s jazz fans will once again be enjoying yet another jazz concert courtesy of the TML 100 Club on 5th September, 2013 at the Serena Hotel featuring our very own Jazz maestro Isaiah Katumwa. The self-taught saxophonist will be performing live with a band in the biggest jazz concert yet courtesy of Tusker Malt Lager’s 100 Club. TML 100 Club is an exclusive, online platform that gives Tusker Malt Lager consumers the opportunity to relax, interact and network with like-minded people and enjoy a wide array of benefits courtesy of Tusker Malt Lager. Isaiah Katumwa has made a name for…
August 31st, 2013 marked the end of the mandatory regulatory customer SIM registration exercise; the 18 month exercise was initiated in March 2012. By the deadline of 31st August, MTN Uganda had successfully registered 96% of its close to 8.2 million active customer base leaving a total of just 327,548 active customers yet to be registered. These have been affected by the full deactivation process effective 1st September 2013 as communicated by the Uganda Communication Commission (UCC). The initial period was focused on registering as many of its customers as possible as the company carried out a validation of the…
MTN Uganda has launched an exciting promotion that will see its over 8 million customers enjoy their share of 10 Billion shillings worth of bonus airtime over the next 90 days. The promotion is offered in a bid to reward their customers for their loyalty over the last fifteen years of operation in Uganda. Company officials have announced that the benefits apply to all Prepaid & Hybrid customers who registers for the promotion by dialing *188# and then recharges with Airtime. MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer, Ernst Fonternel, described the promotion as a simple and straight forward offer where all…
By Stuart G-khast Word reaching Bigeye.ug desk is that UK based promoter Ro Jose wants to manage Rehemah Namakula aka Rema’s career. Jose was manager of fading vocalist OS before they parted ways. Rema who is set to have her Kukaliba concert at Equatorial Hotel could be heading for greater things ahead of her Gagamel exit. Rema has held so many successful concerts and performances since her exit from Gagamel crew. Rema and Bebe Cool are having another row as the latter is said to have received the balance from the Ugachick advert but did not tip off Rema. Meanwhile, Rema…
By Ian Nkera Ford Like many Ugandans, I remain stunned at the manner in which Golola Moses dispatched his soldier nemesis Titus Tugume in less than a minute in their title clash at Freedom City on Friday. Hardly had fans taken their seats when Tugume’s jaws touched the converse in embarrassing fashion. Yes people, the soldier’s jaws were treated to a left hook by the motor mouthed kickboxer. The match was finished in less than a minute to the chagrin of supporters. They were left cursing and felt cheated in a way because they felt the two were going to…
By Ian Nkera Ford Buddies studios have been on a roll this year and right from their hit factory has been 2013 revelation and upcoming diva Fille Clear. Yes, her name isn’t exactly a crowd puller but her talent is something you can’t easily ignore. She has slowly announced herself on the scene with some remarkable sounds. If awards were held today, she is odds on favourite to tussle it out with some more accomplished names. A Ugandan of Rwandese origin, Fille has been mentioned in the same breath as fallen diva Sera of the contagious fame. It’s reasonable to…
By Ian Nkera Ford By Toniks’ standards, 2013 has been a dismal year with only Mungatto as something of a hit to show off. Probably after parting ways with veteran manager Shadrack Kuteesa, he had to go back to the drawing board. I must say the Kuteesa-Toniks link up yielded many results as Toniks rounded 2012 with major hits like the chart topper Tugende Tukyekoole and that Runyakole anthem Itaano. Why they parted ways is a story for another day. Allan Toniks (wondering why he added Allan to his stage name) returns with a ballad to serenade his predominantly female…
By Ian Nkera Ford As I speak, Gareth Bale has finally put an end to speculation by becoming the latest Galactico in a superstar cast that includes Portuguese talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso and many others. It took 86 million pounds to prize him away from White Hart Lane and make him the world’s most expensive footballer. Not bad for a footballer who was almost sold by Tottenham for a paltry 5 million pounds as a makeshift for Stewart Downing in 2008. So, now that the 24 year old Welshman will be donning the white strip of Les Merengues, how…
