ZTE, the Chinese telecom equipment maker has been dragged in a bribery scandal.

According to a report by NBC News, the Chinese telecoms company is the subject of a new bribery investigation by the U.S. Justice Department.

The NBC report said the U.S. Justice Department was investigating whether ZTE paid foreign officials to gain advantages in its global operations.

ZTE said in response to the report that it has not yet received notices from the US but that it is fully committed to meeting its legal and compliance obligations.

ZTE has previously pleaded guilty to violating U.S. sanctions against Iran and North Korea. An investigation three years ago found the company had conspired to evade U.S. embargoes by buying U.S. components, incorporating them into ZTE equipment and illegally shipping them to Iran.
