The Tusker Lite Neon Raves is returning to the spotlight, but this time the dancers are stepping aside to make way for the DJs.
This weekend, Tusker Lite will take over the Tooro region with a three-day entertainment experience, transforming its Neon Raves platform into a high-energy DJ battle that celebrates the art of mixing, musical storytelling and live performance.
According to Tusker Lite Brand Manager Sandra Againe, the evolution of the Neon Raves reflects the brand’s commitment to celebrating the different forms of youth expression that shape Uganda’s entertainment culture.
“Own Your Lite is about giving people the confidence to express themselves in ways that are authentic to them. Earlier this year, Neon Raves celebrated dance and the incredible talent that exists across Uganda. This weekend, we turn our attention to DJs, the people who create the soundtrack to our experiences and keep the energy alive wherever people come together. It’s another opportunity to celebrate creativity and continue owning the spaces where culture is created.” She said.
The DJ battles come at a time when Uganda’s disc jockey culture has never been more vibrant or more competitive.
Over the years, DJs have become some of the biggest influencers of nightlife and popular music, with fans increasingly paying attention to technical ability, transitions, scratching and the overall art of reading a crowd. Friendly rivalries have become part of the culture, with DJs regularly challenging one another over who has the better music selection, smoother mixes and stronger stage presence.
That conversation reached another level earlier this year after an episode of The Bag featuring DJ Spinny sparked widespread debate across social media, drawing reactions from DJs across the region and reigniting conversations about the quality and evolution of Ugandan DJ culture.
Tusker Lite is now bringing those conversations to the stage.
Across three days, some of the country’s respected selectors will go head-to-head in battles designed to test creativity, crowd control and technical skill.
At Le Rêve Bar, DJ Mercy Pro will face Trizzy Vybz in what promises to be one of the weekend’s headline clashes, while Selecta Jeff will square off against Edu Mystique in two separate battles at Beer Nyama, Tooro Botanical Gardens, and later at Diplomat’s Lounge.
Unlike conventional club performances, the battles will place DJs under pressure to respond to each other’s selections, showcase seamless transitions and keep audiences engaged throughout their sets.
The activation also signals Tusker Lite’s continued investment in youth culture through the Own Your Lite campaign, extending the Neon Raves platform beyond dance to recognise another creative community that shapes Uganda’s nightlife and entertainment landscape.
By spotlighting DJs and MCs, Tusker Lite is acknowledging a craft that often happens behind the decks but remains central to every memorable night out.
As the beats drop across Tooro this weekend, the Neon Raves enters a new chapter—one where the battle is no longer on the dance floor, but behind the turntables, where reputation, creativity and musical instinct will all be put to the test.
