The President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to host the Cranes for dinner next week.
After the Cranes 2-1 victory over Angola in a 2014 World Cup qualifier last weekend, the President was very impressed and promised to host the team at his State House in Entebbe.
Museveni who also played football in High School is said to have called (telephoned) on match day to wish the team success. The Director of Communication in the President’s office, Sarah Kagingo told the team that the President was very happy with the victory.
“Kagingo told me to tell the team that president is very happy with what they (Cranes) have done for this country. She said that the president is willing to host the team for a dinner next week and fulfill his pledges to both the Cranes and FA,” Fred Malibu, the team media officer said.
In 2011 the President also visited the Cranes team after training at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole ahead of a 2012 Afcon qualifier against Kenya, and he offered the team US$20,000 (50 million Uganda shillings).
Although the President occasionally steps in to help sports in the country, the Ugandan government generally spends very little to support sports compared to neighbours Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.
