Yesterday afternoon, Uganda’s flag was lifted high as the national women basketball team, the Gazelles beat South Africa 55-43 to register their first win at the ongoing Afrobasket Women’s championship in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde.
Having lost all their first three games at the tournament, the Gazelles pulled up their socks to claim their first victory with She Cranes skipper Peace Proscovia once again inspiring the Timothy Odeke-coached side coming off with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Guards Judith Nansobya and Moreen Amoding are also some of those that put up a good show scoring 12 points a piece.
The result implies that South Africa remain the only team without a win in Group A.
The Gazelles return to action today against Mali for their last game of pool A.
