Tusker Project Fame Season 5 Winner is Kenya’s Ruth Matete. They received a recording deal worth KSh10 Million with Universal Music Group, and KSh5 Million cash. The finale aired Sunday night, July 29. Contestants came from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Southern Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The TPF Season 5 competition started with 18 aspiring African musicians picked from over 3,000 amateurs.
The 5 finalists were
1. Ruth Matete, 26 Years Old, Kenya.
This 26-year-old, is studying Communication, pursuing an undergraduate degree. She names Adele as her favorite musician and loves to listen to Jazz. She decided to try out for Tusker Project Fame because she believes the platform is just right for an aspiring musician. She calls herself loud and worries that this could affect her stay in the academy as it does not work too well for her sometimes.
2. Jackson Kalimba, 25 Years Old, Rwanda
He started singing at the age of 5, and is an Economics university student. Besides watching movies and taking evening walks, he loves to party. His favorite musicians include Stevie Wonder, Mary J Blige, and John Legend.
3. Joe Irankuda Christian, 24 Years Old, Burundi
He is a first year student pursuing a degree in Marketing at the International Leadership University. His favorite musicians are Lionel Richie, Tracy Chapman, and Kenny Rodgers. This 24-year old’s mantra is, “Live life! It’s never that serious.”
4. Doreen, 21 Years Old, Kenya
This free spirited, Neo Soul loving, 21-year-old is a student at the University of Nairobi. She is also a poet and author, who loves to paint. Her mother is her inspiration because of her strong spirit. Her favorite singers are, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and India Arie.
5. Steve Homes, 25 Years Old, Kenya
This 25 year old is a simple guy. He is an avid Arsenal fan, who quotes, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
