In a twisting turn of events, Daily Monitor’s Malcolm Gibson has resigned today from the post of Executive Editor. He’d been at the centre of the latest restructuring at Daily Monitor that saw editors such as Chris Obore lose posts, and people such as the Managing Director Alex Asiimwe and Don Wanyama, the Managing Editor being shown the exit.
He also managed to appoint Carol Beyanga the first female Managing Editor in the history of Daily Monitor. Yet yesterday, 10th March on a Tuesday morning, key staff woke up to read emails with his resignation letter attached.
Gibson cited old age and a couple of other issues in his letter. Gibson’s appointment took effect March 2014, and he was to be in charge of all the editorial content platforms at Monitor Publications Ltd. Gibson has been a reporter, senior editor and news executive at the New York Times company and also a professor of journalism at the University of Kansas.
Daily Monitor will now go back into the market and scout for a new Executive Editor. Rumours have it that Charles Odoobo Bichachi who had been demoted to Associate Editor maybe promoted to fill the post in the meantime.
In other news, Stephen Kaboyo has been appointed Uganda Telecom Board Chairman.
