We have learnt that students of St. Maria Gorreti Secondary School at Rushoroza Hill in Kabale were involved in a disastrous strike in which property worth millions was vandalized. The rowdy students reportedly went on strike at around 10:00pm in the night after the school administration refused them to show the Arsenal-Man United match on television.
“We told the students to go to the library and their respective classes to start revising for the end of year exams but they insisted that they wanted to watch the game between the two English Premier League giants,” Silver Begambagye, the school head teacher told New Vision.
Reports indicate that students were armed with logs, stones among other dangerous equipment that they used to destroy the administration block, classroom windows, the Science Laboratory and the library itself where they had been sent to read. Some school property is also reported to have gone missing.
The angry students not only destroyed the school property but also beat up the deputy head teacher who is now nursing injuries at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.
The school has since been closed and senior six students will be commuting from home to complete their exams. Meanwhile other non-candidate students were all indefinitely sent home as the school administration settles to revise the situation.
