On Wednesday November 15 th , 2017 Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club home
ground the StarTimes Stadium was officially launched at a colorful function graced by the Sports
Minister Hon. Charles Bakabulindi.
The function that happened at halftime in KCCA FC’s 2-0 win over Police saw the minister hype
praise on StarTimes.
“I want to commend companies like StarTimes who sacrifice a lot to develop sports through
sponsorship deals like these.”
“Minister urged everyone to support StarTimes because they have shown to have good intentions
for the development of sports in Uganda”
In his speech before inviting the minister, StarTimes Vice President marketing Aldrine Nsubuga
explained the reason behind the company’s decision to take over the naming rights of the
Stadium.
“it is out of deep respect for club legend Phillip Omondi (RIP) that StarTimes came out to give
that emblem a value to benefit the club in terms of welfare and success today. This, we have
done by way of renaming the stadium in return for a hefty financial support of 1.6bn UGX for
the next 4years. This is why the club fans should support this venture to move the club forward.
StarTimes renewed their relationship in April 2017 and the new deal meant to run from June 1 st
2017 to July 31 st 2011 had the pay TV continue as KCCA FC’s official sponsors but also take
over the naming rights of the stadium in a deal worth Shs3.2B
