Over 4000 youth have gathered at the Kaazi camping grounds in Busabala, Wakiso district for the annual national scouts’ camp.

This was revealed during the official opening ceremony held at the camping grounds on Monday afternoon. According to the organisers, the annual camp continues to register increased participation every year with this year’s camp attracting participants from 46 districts and several representatives from across the globe.

The opening ceremony excited the campers as Chief guest Gen. Katumba Wamala, the Minister of State for Works who also doubles as the Chief Commissioner of Uganda Scouts Association and his entourage was led on tour of the camp where he lauded their creativity.

While addressing the scouts,  Gen. Katumba Wamala asked them to maintain discipline during their stay at the camp and urged them to engage in activities that will help them acquire skills that can be translated to their day-to-day lives after the camp.

He also acknowledged the increased participation as he  called out to other district leaders to encourage participation in scouting activities in their regions.

The young scouts will be equipped in life skills that include public speaking, ICT, life mindset change and making re-usable pads among others.

They will also participate in competitions where the winner will represent Uganda at the regional competition also to be held in Uganda in December.

The scouts who arrived from across the country at Kaazi camping grounds on Friday, August 25 will spend a week at the camp.
