Earlier reports about the passing of Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya have been refuted. Updates from National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, and the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, confirm that Ssegirinya is still alive but in critical condition.
Bobi Wine, in a statement shared on his social media platforms, clarified the situation:
“CLARIFICATION: According to the doctors, Hon. Ssegirinya MUHAMMAD is brain dead, most of his organs have shut down, but he is not yet declared dead. When the mother was told that, she immediately announced his passing. Our teams are on ground monitoring the situation, as we all PRAY FOR A MIRACLE.”
Meanwhile, Speaker Anita Among also provided an update, noting that Ssegirinya’s heart is still active despite multiple organ failures:
“Doctors attending to him say his organs are failing, but his heart is still active. Members will be notified on any developments in due course.”
As Ugandans anxiously await further updates, both leaders have called for prayers for the ailing legislator.
The situation remains fluid, and the Parliament has pledged to keep the public informed about any new developments.
