“Fight Hard, Mr. Updates”: Muhammad Ssegirinya’s Final Message to His Supporters

The fallen Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, has left behind a defiant message that continues to inspire his supporters even after his passing.

Ssegirinya, widely known as “Mr. Updates,” succumbed to health complications on Thursday at Lubaga Hospital after a prolonged battle with illness. His death has left a void in Ugandan politics, but his final words have sparked a call for resilience and action.

In a heartfelt video recorded before his death, Ssegirinya dismissed the conventional mourning phrase, “Rest in Peace,” urging his followers not to use it in reference to him.

“Anyone who writes ‘Rest in Peace’ for me would have done injustice to me,” he declared. “How can you say ‘Rest in Peace’ when they have killed me? It is not possible.”

Instead of mourning, he called upon his supporters to embrace his legacy of activism and persistence.

“Fight hard, Mr. Updates,” he instructed, emphasizing the need to continue the battle he had fought throughout his political career.
