It’s almost just a fortnight before the kick-off of the upcoming Eastern Africa University Games that are scheduled for December 17th to 21st at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono.
This year’s organizers UCU say that they are more than ready for the tournament and have done everything in their power to put up the required facilities in place. Among the top priorities for the smooth running of the tourney is security which they have already guaranteed to all participants.
“As for security, we are set for the event. We shall deploy over 300 police officers in every department within and outside the university,” Abraham Tukundane, the officer in charge UCU is quoted on the new vision website. Walk through machines are some of the other security measures that will be implemented.
Universities like UCU, Makerere, Ndejje, Kyambogo, MUBS, Gulu University will represent Uganda in the competitions. Other Universities like University of Nairobi and Zanzibar will also be there. Several others from Burundi, Rwanda and South Sudan are also expected to take part with over 6000 athletes from 56 universities.
Games like Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Darts, Handball, Hockey, Karate, Rugby, Scrabble, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball and Woodball are among the disciplines in which the universities will compete. Games like swimming, hockey will be played outside the university premises such Namilyango college, Kampala parents school.
