The president of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) Eng. Moses Magogo has demanded for the inclusion of Uganda Cranes and Club CAF engagements into the national budget.
While addressing the Vice President Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi along with other government officials during a State House dinner with the Uganda Cranes, Magogo called upon the government to include the national team into the budget.
He further suggested that clubs representing Uganda in the continental CAF competitions also be included in budget.
“I appeal to the Government to consider international budgets for matches involving Uganda Cranes and clubs in the CAF competitions. Football is a natural resource just like minerals which directly and indirectly brings in millions of money to the country,” Magogo said.
It should be noted that on several occasions, the federation has reached out to the government for financial support to facilitate Uganda Cranes’ engagements.
In September, almost at the eleventh hour, President Museveni gave the team $210,000 for their trip to Comoros for a clash in 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers and also recently in November, he offered a chartered plane to fly the team to Lome, Togo for a fixture in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Such scenarios sometimes hinder team preparations and that’s why local football governing body boss is urging government to include such engagements into the national budget.
