Michael Cleaves has shared his remarkable journey from working as an electrician to building a business empire valued at about £72 million, highlighting the role of practical skills, determination and attitude in achieving success.

Cleaves revealed that he left university at the age of 15 before pursuing a path that eventually led him into entrepreneurship and significant financial success.

Speaking about his business journey, Cleaves said he sold his company for £32 million. Five years after the sale the business is reportedly worth £72 million, reflecting its growth since the transaction.

Reflecting on his achievements, Cleaves encouraged young people not to limit their ambitions based on their educational background arguing that success can be achieved through different routes.

He emphasised that practical experience, the ability to recognise opportunities and a positive mindset can play a significant role in building a successful career.

“It’s 20% skill and 80% attitude,” Cleaves said, stressing the importance of mindset in achieving personal and professional goals.

His story offers an example of how vocational skills can provide a foundation for entrepreneurship, allowing individuals to build on their experience and pursue opportunities beyond their initial careers.

Cleaves’ journey from electrician to a business tycoon also highlights the potential of entrepreneurship to create substantial wealth, particularly for those willing to take risks and develop their business ideas.

His experience serves as a reminder that career paths are not always straightforward and that success can emerge from different backgrounds, experiences and opportunities.
