“We are all on the same planet but live in different worlds”, that was my deduction following a fight between father and son at a family reunion over choice of the deejay’s playlist.
By 9 Pm, the grand parents, uncles, those born before the early 80s, and visitors from the village were dancing to rumba, soul mixed with lingala and songs in luo.
“The #SamsungTwitterParty is back! Get ready to party the night away come 19th December at Zone 7 with fellow tweeps. Entrance is 15,000shs. Call 0775439894 for details. Great music and drinks.”
My host, his son, my companions and I were not comfortable and sought solace in booze and girls till 11pm. The old guys could not leave the dance floor so we ordered the deejay to change playlist because the girls were in the mood for twerking and bed room bullying.
Our choice and dance moves forced the father to attack the DJ, a move his drunk son followed with demeaning statement saying the old and ageing should rest. High on liquor, the dad sent a timber shattering blow sending the son on the ground before we moved in to help.
Thankfully, the old men went to bed and we revenged on the night!
