China Communications Construction company (CCCC), a leading comprehensive infrastructure contractor and investor recently launched a mega scholarship program for the less privileged kids. As part of their corporate social responsibility, the company, through their Mubende Kakumiro Kagadi (MKK) project, launched the scheme in Kibale district early this week.

The scheme, according to the project manager Ju Wenjie, is aimed at giving back to the community, as construction works take course. Mr. Ju also noted that the scholarship is aimed at encouraging students in the area to study hard and be beneficial to the society.

Over eight students from four districts; Mubende, Kakumiro, Kagadi and Kibale, received cash on the day of the launch, that was attended by local leaders, students and parents. The event held at ST. Theresa Primary school Bujuni in Kibale also saw the local leaders laud CCCC for their distinguished support and development in the community.

Speaking at the event, Kanyenzi Hope, the secretary of education Kibale district thanked CCCC for shedding light on the importance of children in society building “We thank very much CCCC for this function. You have put much light to us that the international child day is worth celebrating. Don’t take that money for your parents to take alcohol. Use it in the line of education,” she said. “CCCC is like a blessing to us. I think we haven’t had many problems with CCCC As a district we pledge total support and total security for any Chinese in Uganda,” she added.

Addressing the guests at the launch, MKK project manager Ju Wenjie, noted how paramount it is to build society with children.

“We’re happy to associate with you on this project. We believe in building and connecting the world. Children are the future engineers. It’s in that light that we have come up with the children scholarship to help students achieve their dreams,” he said.

The representative of the student beneficiaries, Mbabazi Justine said “We are very grateful for this CCCC scholarship and we promise to make good use of it and be an example to our classmates”.

The representative of the project engineer revealed that the company intends to have the scheme run for as long as the company is in the Bunyoro land. “We’re going to be doing this until the end of our project here and we hope to increase the number if God wishes,” he said.

Mubende-Kakumiro-Kagadi (MKK) road project is a construction venture estimated to last at least 3 years. Works are already on-going in the area despite delays in compensation and land acquisition.
