Bebe Cool, the Ugandan musician, has taken legal action against Airtel Uganda, alleging rapid depletion of his data package.
In a formal letter released today, Bebe Cool stated that he purchased a 22GB monthly data plan for Ugx 50,000, only to find his data disappearing unexpectedly.
This move follows Bebe Cool’s earlier plea to Airtel Uganda on January 17th, 2024, requesting the return of his unused data before 10 a.m. Unfortunately, his request went unanswered, prompting him to escalate the matter through legal channels.
According to Bebe Cool, he experienced a significant data loss after using his TikTok app for a mere 5 minutes and subsequently charging his phone for an upcoming Zoom meeting.
Despite minimal usage, he received an alert indicating a depletion of over 17GBs within a short span, leaving him with no data for his crucial business meeting.
In response to the alleged data mismanagement, Bebe Cool demands transparency from Airtel Uganda, requesting an inventory and usage chart of his mobile data between January 16th, 2024, at 9:56 p.m. and January 17th, 2024, at 1:00 a.m.
Moreover, he seeks compensation totaling Ugx 200 million, comprising Ugx 100 million for travel expenses and an additional Ugx 100 million for the inconveniences caused. Airtel Uganda has been given 21 days from the receipt of the letter to address these grievances.
