After being relegated to the FUFA Big League at the end of the 2015/2016 season, Simba Sports Club has bought The Saints Football Club. The Saints FC was a league debutant in the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) last season having attained promotion to the topflight in the 2014/2015 campaign.
“There have been negotiations and we have reached an agreement for a take-over of the club,” David Nkugwa, Simba’s manager is quoted on Kawowo. Apparently, the two parties agreed to a deal worth UGX150million.
“The technical staff shall have to apply to be considered for the jobs. All players who have been playing for The Saints have been retained,” Nkugwa added.
However, Saints head coach Moses Basena who also doubles as the Uganda Cranes assistant to coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic will reportedly be retained in his position after he miraculously saved the side from relegation last season.
After the deal, the final name for the club will be decided by the local football governing body, FUFA.
