His Excellence President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended financial support worth 300M to the Uganda Cranes as they prepare to play Burkina Faso in a back-to-back fixture on 26th in Ouagadougou and on 29th March in Kampala.
The development has been confirmed by FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo through a Facebook post made on his timeline.
“The President of the Republic of Uganda HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended financial assistance of UGX 300M as partial contribution towards Uganda Cranes for the two matches against Burkina Faso in the 2017 AFCON Qualifying campaign,” reads part of Magogo’s post.
The funding has however come at time when the Cranes already left for Ouagadougou aboard Ethiopian Airlines after failing to get a chartered plane due to financial constraints.
Even when FUFA appreciates the funding and acknowledges President Museveni as the number one supporter of the Uganda Cranes, the local football governing body boss says that there is still a huge deficit according to their budget for the two fixtures.
“Although there still a financial deficit of the budget for the two matches, the funds received will ease financial pressure and Government has promised to give more support to FUFA towards the two fixtures,” the post further stated.
