Sports Club Villa is in desperate need for cash to fund their 2016 CAF Confederations Cup campaign after they were confirmed for the continental tournament last week.
Last week, the local football governing body (FUFA) confirmed the receipt of a communication from CAF regarding Uganda’s two teams for the 2016 continental competitions, namely; the CAF Champions League in which league defending champions Vipers will feature and the CAF Confederations Cup for SC Villa.
Following this development, SC Villa president Eng. Immanuel Ben Misagga confirmed that the Jogoos are ready to represent the country on the continent after a long while but was quick to note that they need financial support.
The 2015 Uganda Cup champions need about 560 million shillings to fund their engagements that include away fixture travels as well as facilitating players.
Misagga revealed this during an interaction with the club fans on Sunday at Villa Park in Nsambya where 10million shillings is said to have been collected and also responded to reports that KCCA FC was to step-in if his side had failed to register on time.
“If KCCA FC badly wants to represent the country, they still have a chance if they win one of the two trophies at the end of the season. For now, we [SC Villa] are the champions and we shall be part of the tournament much as we still need support from the fans,” reads Misagga’s statement on the Observer website.
