Begin with the bed
A bed can make or break the romantic ambiance of a bedroom. So, in order to ensure that the bed spells romance, see that it is comfortable. The size of the bed does not matter as much as the quality of bedding and bedding accessories such as cushions, pillows and bedspreads. Invest in a good recron or memory foam mattress. A soft bed which gives good support to the body makes you comfortable and enhances the romantic ambiance.
Bedding and accessories
Bed sheets: Do not go in for multi-coloured bed sheets. Sheets of solid colours such as deep reds, purples, rust or royal blue with light detailing in a homogenous colour can work wonders. High quality cottons are the best and more functional. However, for special occasions, you can have sheets of silk and satin. The smooth feel that the sheets create can shoot the romantic quotient up by several notches.

Flimsy drapes in pastel colours are perfect for a romantic bedroom. Although you should have heavy drapes in order to maintain privacy, you can choose to layer your curtains with sheers on a second curtain rail.
Note: To create that special romantic appeal, draw off the heavy drapes and let the moon light flow in through the sheers. The gently swaying curtains can create a very romantic mood.
Furniture and accessories
Cluttered bedrooms are an anti-climax to romance and so is a bedroom that is not spotlessly clean and tidy. So, clear away unwanted furniture and things that you do not use. Make the bedroom airy and spacious. Ensure that sheets are not stained and the headboard is not dust ridden.
Scent
Romance is very deeply linked with good smell. Use of aromatic candles, room fresheners, incense sticks and scented sachets are perfect for a romantic bedroom. You can also have a diffuser with essential oils that are known for relaxing the mind and aphrodisiac properties. The gentle smell can be great for creating a romantic feel.
