David Beckham has hinted that he could yet come out of retirement.
The former footballer called an end to his 22-year playing career last year after relocating to France to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking on the new BBC documentary David Beckham: Into The Unknown, the 39-year-old said that he has been through “a stage of enjoying the rest” but is now tempted to go back to the sport.
He said: “Now I go to watch a basketball game and, when you are watching athletes play at the top of their game, for me it gives me that itch again and I want to be back in the game then and I start thinking to myself, ‘Could I play again? Could I go back? Could I come out of retirement and start playing again?”‘
Beckham previously said about his retirement: “I just feel that it’s the right time. I feel that I’ve achieved everything that I could in my career. I wanted to go out as a champion. I’ve finished my career in a team that has treated me like I’ve been here for 10 years.
“After 22 years of playing football, I’m going to take a few months to enjoy time with my family.”
The former England international cried after being substituted in the 81st minute of his last football game for Paris Saint-Germain.
He will next be seen in documentary David Beckham Into the Unknown, which airs on BBC One next Monday (June 9).
