Chelsea will aim to progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions league when they host Galatasaray in the second leg of their last 16 encounter at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
The first leg in Istanbul ended in a 1-1 draw with Cameroon international Aurelien Chedjou cancelling Fernando Torres’ early opener.
The Blues have a slight advantage ahead of kick-off as they are currently ahead based on the away goals rule.
This means that a 0-0 draw would be enough to send them through the next round while a 1-1 draw would sent the match to extra time. A higher scoring draw, however, would swing the match back to Galatasaray’s favour.
Ivorian star Didier Drogba will also be under the spotlight as he returns to Stamford Bridge in Galatasaray colours having spent eight years with the London club.
The veteran striker has admitted that he is unsure what to make of his homecoming of his reunion with the Chelsea supporters, although he is not expecting any hostility from the crowd.
“It (Chelsea) is the club where I experienced everything,” said. “I experienced the highest level, big games, big ties. It allowed me to get closer to the best players in the world.
“I hope that Galatasaray qualify. It will be difficult, but I think that regarding the welcome, I think I’m allowed to say that I will receive a warm welcome, because I know Chelsea’s fans and our relationship is really special.
“It will be great to see them again; I am looking forward to it.”
Chelsea will also look to use this match to bounce back to winning ways having lost 1-0 away to Aston Villa in a Premier League match on Saturday.
Galatasaray’s were also unable to claim maximum points in the Turkish Super Lig this past weekend as they played to a 0-0 draw against Karabukspor on Friday.
