Victor Ruz has called on local event promoters to improve the way they treat artists, saying musicians who conduct themselves professionally are sometimes taken for granted.
Ruz criticised promoters who impose strict rules on the number of people an artist can come with to an event, saying some are allowed to move with large groups while artists who travel with small professional teams face restrictions.
“Why do you want to put us down, us who are calm? Because they know I’m sober and expect to explain things to me, they end up disrespecting me, and it’s why I turn off their invitations,” Ruz said.
The singer explained that he normally travels with only four or five people, including his manager, camera person, DJ, driver and himself.
Despite keeping his team small, Ruz said he has sometimes struggled to get basic considerations such as parking at events, while artists who arrive with larger groups are given more attention.
“We decided to do things in a professional way, but they should respect us. I don’t move with useless people,” he added.
