Our style crush this week, is fashion designer Renzioni. The one aspect we love about Renzioni’s style is the way he beautifully makes use of the African fabric. Whether its pants, on the red carpet; there is always an element of the beautiful African fabric in his look, complete with lovely prints. He shares with us his wardrobe tricks, and style story.
How would you define your style?
My style is simply afro-urban and clean.
How big is your wardrobe?
Lol… I have never taken time to measure. But I have three wardrobes though, which I have tried to divide into my 3 lives: “The boy next door”, “The Fashionista” and ‘The cabin crew official’.
Please share your wardrobe must-have?
That would be fresh underwear (briefs to be precise), lots of cotton tees, African print items of fashion, denims skinny/fitting (nothing too loose), flip flops (must haves), MY RING, SUNGLASSES, axe brand body spray, cologne, Meditex lip salve, man purses from my label Renzioni, assorted sweat shirt, flat slip-on shoes from route 66, toms and Renzioni.
What is the dominant item in your wardrobe?
Cotton tees with African print mélange from Renzioni.
What are some of your fashion No-No’s?
Sagging pants, unkempt hair & nails, plus industrial shoes.
How much effort do you put in choosing your outfit?
Well, I personally fix myself within 24 hours to a supposed event. Even within the last minutes to the start, it requires basically an understanding of the event and fine tuning it to my personality and feeling generally.
Which sex gives you the hardest time to dress?
As a designer who has African prints as the base of my kind of fashion, the men give me the hardest time. It’s easier for the women to embrace prints and get it going fabulously, however, it takes a fashion forward and very confident man to rock prints.
What is your style secret? One that works for you alone?
Simplicity, self-understanding & comfort.
What are some of the irritating fashion blunders you notice with Kampala women?
OMG! I don’t get it when I see some women wearing hair nets during the day. (Honey, wake up! Those are used to hold the hair in place during sleep).
Which celebrity’s wardrobe would you wish to give a total revamp?
I personally feel like everybody’s dress sense is a product of their choices and abilities so I can’t judge. However I would want to splash my designs in Davido’s wardrobe and Rihanna’s too. Because I love them. Nothing more.
What is your emergency outfit?
Flip flops, cotton tee, denims, chinos harem pants, ice watch rubber and my phones.
With the ever changing trends in fashion, how easy is it for your wardrobe to catch up, with this?
Well, there is no deliberate attempt to catch up. As a designer, I only want to look good because if I don’t look good, my clients lose confidence. I am fashion, I am simplicity, and I am progressive. So all this entirely put together for me is good enough. I don’t follow the trends or fads, I create mine.
Any fashion tips you would like to share?
If it doesn’t stand you out beautifully then it’s not worth the stress. It has to be comfortable, outstanding and simply a head-turner.
Chains Vs Jackets. Your pick?
I ain’t big on chains already. A jacket does the magic anytime. It transforms a look from totally casual to super sexy cool. Jackets save me every other time.
