This award was established to honour Komla Dumor, an exceptional Ghanaian presenter and broadcaster for BBC World News, who died at 41 years in 2014.

Serwanjja has overtime combined his skills and passion to help shape the African narrative through the very many stories he has reported including “Stealing from the Sick”, on car-fuel theft, on the Kifeesi crew, among others.

With his exceptional talent and eye for African news, he has managed to tell stories through the eyes of Ugandans. His art of story-telling has highlighted a desire to have a positive impact on Uganda. Previous winners of the award include Waihiga Mwaura in 2018, Amina Yuguda in 2017, Didi Akinyelire in 2016 and Ugandan Nancy Kacingira in 2015.
