The head coach at Express Football Club has attributed the poor performance of his team in the ongoing FUFA Super League to a lack of motivation because players and coaching staff have gone several months without pay.
Frank Anyau, who joined the club from Entebbe FC, told MTNFootball.com on Thursday that unless management of the club comes good on some of their promises as regards salary arrears, performance will be affected because the team is not motivated.
On Tuesday, Express FC, who are 13th on the log, suffered a 2-0 loss to relegation-threatened Masaka LC FC.
The coach said over 10 players have abandoned training over non-payment of their salaries and the situation is really pathetic.
“I have made several reminders to the management to clear the players, but all in vain,” he said.
The Red Eagles, as the team is popularly known, have only won three games from the 14 played.
Asked why he was still in charge of a team that is failing to pay him, Anyau said they may as well sack him since he is almost working for charity.
Some players, who did not want to be named for fear of reprisals from the club management, said that it was becoming hard for them to attend regular training as they have to fend for their families.
When contacted for the club’s position, the secretary Patrick Kalungi refused to comment.
“I don’t want to say anything in regards to Express FC now,” said an elusive Kalungi.
The club is expected to hosts Bidco FC tomorrow at their Wankulukuku Stadium.
