All around the globe, folks have always wondered what the secret to living a great and happy life is. Well, you lucky folks have a chance to read on our Bigeye.ug website. The team compiled 5 simple steps to a great living. This has been achieved through extensive research and thorough reading. Here we go.
Step 1: Be grateful for whatever you have. There is one pastor who mentioned a statement that pierced my soul and it could also pierce yours as well. He said, “if you can’t thank God for what you are, then thank him for what you are not.” This statement literally means that if you can’t appreciate that that you are, a scholar for instance, then appreciate that you’re not, an idler atleast. If you can’t give thanks to the Lord that you have good health, then thank him that you are not sick. The same goes for possessions. Learn to appreciate what you have always worked for. Stop living a complaining life. As a matter of fact if one loves what he does/have, one always has the motivation to work harder to get more and appreciate more of his potential.
Step 2: Put people first. In whatever you do, consider people as a priority. There is a common saying among Ugandans that “the world is round.” No one knows where they will meet the people they mistreat. Or even one of your family members. When we say people, of course everyone has a range on how to categorize people, there is Family, Friends, Lovers, Buddies, Colleagues, co-workers, and even foes among other related groups. Every ones has a priority among these but they are all people. So never forget to put people first.
Step 3: Don’t let the desire of possession control you. When we mention possession everyone has their own interpretation but in a layman’s language possession is “keeping something as one’s own”. So do not, at whatever cost, let the desire of wanting something possess you. It should never deprive you of your health, wealth, friends or family, mention them. Anything to possess should be achieved within your means if you are to live happily.
Step 4: Hold money loosely. People will have a problem with this statement but believe you me, if you hold money as if it’s your last day to work you will never enjoy what you have worked for. The cycle of economics reveals that the income one receives should match with the expenditure. If there is any divergence, then you’re most likely to have an unhappy & miserable life. And this also means that you should never spend more than what you earn.
Step 5: Develop the habit of giving. The last and final step of a moral lesson to a great living is to develop the habit of giving. Biblically, and the practice in life is that “the hand that giveth is the hand that recieveth.” An open palm receives more than a closed one. Don’t be mean with yourself and the people around you. There is always a pleasure in giving.
If you can’t practice all these, you can select one or a few of these to start with. We long to hear the results.
