Morocco have pulled out of hosting the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations that is due January 2015. The West African country (Morocco) allegedly wrote to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) informing them that they will not be in position to host the forth coming 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations.
According to reports, Morocco pulled out due to fear of the lethal Ebola virus that has left over 4,000 people dead in West Africa since March this year according to the world health organization. The disease has greatly hit West African countries like Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia among others.
Reports further reveal that Morocco told CAF that they will be willing to serve any punishment given by the governing body (CAF) for the late inconveniences caused. It should be noted that this has come at a time of less than three months to the tourney.
This comes as a big surprise not only to CAF but also to all the tournament participants that are still at the qualification group stage of the campaign. Earlier reports claim that the Moroccan Football Federation asked CAF to extend the tourney by one year, from 2015 to 2016 which is seemingly hard because it was just recently changed from even years to odd years to avoid playing the tourney in a world cup year.
Meanwhile, Egypt and South Africa are some of the nations that have already shown interest in taking ove hosting of the tourney.
