Andre Onana, the talented goalkeeper for Cameroon and Manchester United, has promised to return to Uganda for holidays in the future.
The 26-year-old was part of the Indomitable Lions who secured a 1-0 victory over Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the AFCON Qualifier played at Namboole Stadium last night.
Onana’s connection with Uganda began last month when he visited the country during the World Cup qualifiers as Zimbabwe played Cameroon. He was overwhelmed by the love and support shown by Ugandan Manchester United fans, a moment that quickly went viral, even catching the attention of his club, Manchester United.

For the match against Kenya, football authorities decided to play behind closed doors, fearing that the West African side would receive strong support from Ugandans. Despite this, Cameroon managed to claim a crucial three points without the need for a cheering crowd.
After the game, Onana expressed his gratitude and joy at representing his country, while also thanking the Ugandan fans for the support they had shown him. He noted that receiving such love in a foreign country was a significant personal moment.
“It’s always a pleasure to play for my country and the badge. I also wanted to thank the fans in Uganda as this was a very important moment for me personally. Receiving such massive love in a foreign country is never a small thing. However, we had a short time, but I promise to return sometime in the future for holidays and connect with the fans fully,” Onana said.
