Renowned music director and producer Bashir Lukyamuzi aka Badi has finally stepped out of his comfort zone to venture into filmmaking. Having worked with several top Ugandan musicians like Chameleone, Iryn Namubiru, Radio and Weasel, and most recently A Pass among others, the time could not have been any more ripe for Badi to pursue his dream—making films.
“I have worked on many music videos for top Ugandan artistes but my dream has always been to make movies,” Badi revealed recently. “I am really excited my dream is finally coming to life in my first movie project, Bala Bala Sese.”
Badi who self-funded almost the entire movie project says he is driven by passion and this is just the beginning as he plans to take on more such projects.
Badi injected in over Ugx 40M for his debut movie project to bring together a rich cast which includes; Natasha Sinayobye(Maggie), Micheal Kasaija(John), The Ebonies’ Raymond Bushabiro(Kasirivu), Ssesanga Isma(Alex) among others.
Set on Kalangala Islands in a typical village setting, Bala Bala Sese tells a love story of a young couple(John and Maggie) which is out to defend their love from Maggie’s strict father Kasirivu but that love is put to the test when Maggie’s sister dies of a strange disease following a stint in the city.
Written by Usama Mukwaya, Bala Bala Sese was inspired by a true story. According to Badi, after his sister succumbed to the deadly HIV/AIDS, he was left emotionally desolate by the horror she went through and does not wish the same for anyone hence the movie idea.
Bala Bala Sese will premiere at a red carpet event this Friday(3rd July) at Theatre La’bonita. There will be a special performance from dancehall sensation A Pass, whose smash hit “Wuuyo” is the soundtrack to the highly anticipated movie. Tickets go 30K and 50K for ordinary and VIP respectively.
