Watwero Dance Initiative and Batalo East’s collaboration proved to be a testament to the transformative power of the arts in conveying meaningful messages and promoting positive relationships within the community.
For starters, Batalo East champions the fusion of traditional and urban dance styles, creating a vibrant tapestry of cultural expression that resonates both locally and globally, hence coming up with community initiatives including Watwero dance initiative, a groundbreaking ‘The Legend of the Spear and the Bead’ extra ordinary production which delves deep into the social fabric, tackling pertinent issues affecting the youth with artistic flair and raw emotion.
In the heart of Uganda, Batalo East emerges as a beacon of hope, bridging tradition and modernity through the power of dance. Speaking about the event, Ms. Nakato Rachael, the Batalo East Media and Administration Manager cited that, “Through commissioned performances and immersive residencies, Batalo East nurtures budding talent, whilst fostering a new generation of community leaders and professional artists.
Yet, amidst their noble endeavors, Batalo East faces formidable challenges. The absence of governmental and institutional support casts a shadow over the arts landscape, while the prevailing reluctance to recognize the value of dance perpetuates financial insecurity for performers.”
Nakato stressed that, “Undeterred, Batalo East pioneers change, advocating for fair compensation and elevating the production standards to captivate audiences both at home and abroad.
As the curtains rise on sold-out shows and aspirations soar beyond borders, Batalo East envisions a future where dance transcends boundaries, igniting social change and inspiring generations to come. Together, let us embrace the rhythm of possibility and dance towards a brighter tomorrow.”
