Musician Victor Ruz fell victim to a brazen phone theft in the bustling heart of Kampala city center. The incident, which occurred around midnight as Ruz was traversing the streets with companions in his car.
According to eyewitness accounts, Ruz was engrossed in his phone with the windows of his vehicle rolled down when two individuals on a motorbike swiftly approached. In a lightning-fast maneuver, the perpetrators seized Ruz’s device and vanished into the labyrinthine alleys of the city. The motorbike, identified as a red Bajaj Boxer lacking a license plate, added an air of mystery to the audacious theft.
“I tried chasing the thieves, but they maneuvered into a narrow passageway inaccessible to our car,” revealed Ruz’s driver, recounting the futile attempt to apprehend the culprits.
The repercussions of the theft extended beyond the loss of the phone itself. In the aftermath, reports emerged of the thieves exploiting the device’s contact list, reaching out to saved numbers in an attempt to extort money. The ordeal escalated as the perpetrators transitioned from mere thieves to sophisticated scammers, prompting Ruz to swiftly report the matter to the telecommunications company. Consequently, Ruz’s SIM card was deactivated in a bid to thwart further exploitation of his contacts.
In a bid to engage his audience and rally support, Ruz took to social media, posting a video on TikTok to inform his fans of the theft. The clip, shared during the early hours of Friday, showcased the artist’s dismay at the loss of his Samsung device.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the thieves, aided by their swift escape on the motorbike, had managed to evade immediate capture despite the nocturnal hustle and bustle of the city.
Undeterred by the setback, Ruz issued a fervent call to action, urging denizens of Kampala, particularly those frequenting areas like Kikuubo and Kiseka, to remain vigilant.
