The Uganda Police is making a public appeal for any information that may lead to the arrest of suspects involved in the attempted murder of City Pastor, Aloysius Bugingo and the killing of his bodyguard, Corporal Richard Muhumuza.
Additionally, the Police are seeking assistance in the recovery of the weapon used in the attack. A cash prize of UGX. 20 million is being offered to anyone providing crucial information.
According to Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police Spokesperson, the weapon used in the assault on Pastor Bugingo is reportedly linked to the murder of blogger Isma Olaxes, which occurred last year. Enanga revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID) at Kibuli in Kampala has taken charge of the investigations.
Initial findings indicate that a pistol was used in the attack on Pastor Bugingo’s Toyota Lexus car. On January 5, the police forensics team handed over the House of Prayer Ministries International pastor’s vehicle to their counterparts in the CID Department for further investigations. The car, involved in the attempted assassination of Pastor Bugingo, had not been publicly seen since the incident.
Fred Enanga also condemned the spread of false propaganda by netizens and the public regarding the incident. The Police Spokesperson urged the public to rely on verified information to avoid misinformation.
The high-profile attack on Pastor Bugingo took place on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024, when unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle in Namungoona, Kampala, as he was en-route to his home in Namayumba, Wakiso district. The police are urging anyone with pertinent information to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
