The Uganda Cubs qualified for the last stage of the CAF U-17 qualifiers after beating the Rwanda Wasps 4-0 and 3-2, home and away respectively qualifying on a 7-2 aggregate. Matia Lule’s side is now faced with a big task ahead of them as they are to face Zambia at the last stage of the journey.
They will face Zambia who seem to be a better side on paper as regards to the history of the tournament if they are to qualify for the 2015 U-17 Africa Nations’ Cup that will be held in Niger. Zambia beat Botswana 1-0 and 5-0 home and away respectively. The Cubs will have to visit Zambia first on the 13th September 2014 before the return leg in a fortnight at Namboole.
Uganda Cubs head coach Matia Lule is much likely to use the same squad that played both legs between Rwanda Wasps as there looks to be no team additions hinted on anywhere. This follows his comments that praised the team after the second leg against the Wasps of Rwanda in Umuganda stadium in Gisenyi City. He hailed the performance of his charges even when he was quick to react bitterly about the ruined opportunities to bury off the game. He hopes they can improve on their scoring skills.
The squad consists of players like; Eric Kibowa and Edward Kasibante (Goal Keepers), Andrew Isiagi Okiring (Captain), Alex Komakech, Samuel Kato Nemeyimana, Bashir Asiku, Emmanuel Olinga (Vice Captain), Hassan Ssenyonjo, Frank Zaga Tumwesigye, Muhammed Shaban, Charles Sebutinde, Pius Obuya, Joel Jangeyemabe, Diego Katumba, Asraph Mugume, Ezra Bidda, Musa Mukalazi, and Julius Poloto.
