Uganda Cubs progressed yesterday to the last stage of the CAF 2015 Qualifiers after beating Rwanda Wasps 3 – 2. The away victory over a ten man Rwandan side at the Umuganda stadium in Gisenyi City yesterday saw the Cubs qualify for the last stage in which they will face either Zambia or Botswana.
Uganda led 2 – 0 at half time through strikes from Charles Ssebutinde and Julius Poloto. Rwanda came back much stronger for the second half to level the scores 2 all at one stage, thanks to the great efforts and hard works of forward, Rachid Biriganeza’s double.
Goal poacher, Muhammed Shaban, one of the scorers at Namboole in the first leg at Namboole won the game for Cubs with a strike in the 75th minute of the game. With 15 minutes left on the clock, Rwanda Wasps failed to bring the game back to level despite their spirited efforts.
Uganda progressed with a 7 – 2 on aggregate after both legs and awaits for the winner between Botswana and Zambia. Zambia lead Botswana by 1-0 after beating them in the first leg.
Uganda Cubs’ head coach Matia Lule hailed the performance of his players but was quick to react bitterly about the ruined opportunities to bury off the game.
