Two matches in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) were not played yesterday as expected.
At the Kavumba Recreational Stadium, the tie between Soana and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) wasn’t played despite both teams turning up physically plus the match day officials led by center referee Brian Nsubuga.
The teams turned up and did the pre-match warm ups but URA didn’t return to the stadium from the dressing rooms. After minutes of waiting, referee Brian Nsubuga chose to send Soana back to the dressing room when it started raining without any action going on not until late evening when they all departed the stadium.
Meanwhile, the game between Bright Stars and Kiira Young that was expected at the Matugga Stadium wasn’t also played.
Reports suggest that the games were not played in protest of the suspending of the FLS chairman Hajji Abbas Kaawaase Mukasa from any Association Football activities by the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA).
Now the FUFA competitions committee awaits for match reports from the match referee to make boardroom decisions about those two game.
The federation has however cautioned all clubs to play their games as scheduled or else they will be dealt with as stipulated by the rules and regulations that govern the league in the country.
