Chwezi Traveller, a website where travel experts offer the essential travel intelligence travellers need when travelling for leisure or business in eastern Africa, is organising a 6-day trip for budget travellers who wish to explore Uganda’s diverse attractions that are situated along the Albertine Rift.

The excursion, dubbed the Albertine Rift Expedition and slated for this festive season (December 22-27), will take travellers on a mind-bending journey through the unique natural wonders, history and diverse cultures of Uganda – at a very affordable fee. At only Ugsh1.2 million, the forthcoming six-day trip is a near giveaway.

The expedition will start from Kampala and take travellers to Gulu, where they’ll visit the IDP camps, Ajai Game Reserve, Fort Patiko, craft markets and also enjoy Acholi delicacies.

From Gulu the expedition will head to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s animal kingdom. Here, holidaymakers will get an opportunity to come face-to-face with Uganda’s best: elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, as well as a variety of antelope and bird species that roam this park. Also thrown into the mix include a boat safari up the River Nile to Murchison Falls. After the boat safari travellers will hike to the top of the falls, from where they’ll have a wonderful view of the falls and fantastic Kodak moments as the sun sets!

Also on the menu of the Albertine Rift Expedition is a trip to Karuziika (Bunyoro Palace), where travellers will explore the history and culture of the greater Bunyoro Kingdom which, in its heyday, stretched up to Karagwe and northern Tanzania.

Christmas will find travellers in Kibale Forest National Park, where they’ll be guests at the Chimps’ Nest, one of the best lodges in the park. They will spend the afternoon on a leisurely ramble enjoying views of the beautiful forest. For the uninitiated, Kibale Forest National Park harbours the highest number of primate species in the world, including over 5,000 chimpanzees.

The expedition will end in the most beautiful parts of the country that is often referred to as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’, in southwestern Uganda. You’ll go through a bamboo forest and watch the Virunga mountains brooding in a distance — a truly scenic countryside! And while in Kisoro travellers will visit Lake Mutanda, go canoe trekking and also hike Mt. Muhavura.

Afterwards they will be taken on a journey back in time as they track the Batwa, Uganda’s traditionally forest-dwelling pygmy people, before retreating to Lake Bunyonyi for a wonderful relaxation on the shores of a lake that has been described as the most scenic in the world.
