His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda will be hosting his Holiness the Pope in Uganda from 27th-29th November, 2015.
His Holiness is expected to come with 30 Bishops and 75 International Journalists who will be accommodated at Sheraton hotel and Imperial Royale hotels respectively.
The following Traffic guidelines will guide motorists and other road users as follows:
ENTEBBE HIGHWAY
Ø There will be traffic disruption along Entebbe highway on 27th November, 2015 on the day His Holiness the Pope arrives in Uganda.
Ø Motorists heading to Entebbe International Airport should plan their journeys well in time to avoid inconveniences.
Ø Motorists who use this highway regularly are advised to use alternative routes
Ø Fuel tankers and trucks will not be allowed along Entebbe highway between 12 noon and 8 pm on this day
Ø Parking of motor vehicles and motorcycles on pavements along Entebbe highway is prohibited. Abandoned vehicles will be towed away at owners’ cost.
NAMUGONGO SHRINES
Ø There will be NO PARKING for the general public at both the Protestant and Catholic shrines
Ø Only VIPs with vehicles bearing stickers will be allowed to access the VIP parks at both shrines
Ø VIPs with vehicles bearing YELLOW stickers heading to the Catholic Shrine will access Namugongo via Kyaliwajjala and park at Namugongo Primary School play ground. Invited guests with vehicles bearing WHITE stickers will only be allowed access to Kyaliwajala where they will be dropped and vehicles proceed to the designated parking areas for the general public.
Ø VIPs with vehicles bearing RED stickers heading to the Protestant Shrine will access the venue via Seeta and park at the play ground adjacent to the venue. While invited guests with vehicles bearing BLUE stickers will use the same access and park at the Church Farm as shall be guided by traffic police.
Ø Private vehicles, Taxis, buses and Motor cycles will NOT be allowed beyond Kireka Trading Centre
Ø Motorists heading to Namugongo from Northern Bypass, areas of Ntinda, Hoima road and Bwaise will park at St. Peter’s S.S and Hill Side Nursery & Primary School as shall be guided by the Police.
Ø Motorists accessing the venue through Kira Town Council will park at Kira Town Council playground and the Kiira Town Council Gardens.
Ø Motorists from Eastern Route and other areas leading to Kireka and Bweyogerere will park at Namboole National Stadium (Open ground).
Ø The area between Kyaliwajjala – Catholic Shrine to the Protestant Shrine will be a pedestrian zone.
KOLOLO CEREMONIAL GROUNDS
Ø Upper Kololo Terrace will be closed to the general public from 06:00hrs to the end of the function at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds
Ø The motoring public from Kamwokya unrelated to the function will be diverted at Mabua- John Babiha junction through Nyanza Crescent, Elizabeth Avenue, York Terrace, Impala Avenue and may join Jinja Road through Roscoe road or Archer Road.
Ø Elgon Terrace will only be accessed by VIPs with vehicles bearing GREEN stickers and will park at Kololo as shall be guided by Traffic Police.
Ø Invited guests with vehicles bearing ROYAL BLUE stickers will park at City High School and will access via Lugogo Bypass / Rotary Avenue to Roscoe road.
Ø Wampewo Avenue will be one-way from Wampewo Round about towards Kololo Ceremonial Grounds only for pedestrians. Vehicles will not be allowed beyond Wampewo roundabout.
Ø Lower Kololo Terrace will be a pedestrian zone closed to the motoring public.
Ø John Babiha road will be one – way traffic from Golf Course Junction to Kira Road- Kamwokya.
Ø After the function, Wampewo Avenue will again be one-way traffic from Kololo to Wampewo Round-about.
MUNYONYO
Ø VIPs will park opposite the site of Ssebugwawo
Ø Parking for the general public will be at St. Stephen’s Church Munyonyo
NALUKOLONGO (BAKATEYAMBA HOME)
Ø All vehicles from Masaka road and Mityana road not related to the function heading to the city centre will be diverted at Nateete to follow Sir Albert Cook Road / Wakaliga.
Ø Parking for invited guests will be adjacent to the venue
Ø There will be No Parking for members of the public
Ø Traffic police officers will be deployed at junctions, round-about, entrances and parking areas to give further guidance.
Ø Parking along the routes is prohibited. Vehicles parked or abandoned by the road side will be towed to the nearest Police Station at the owner’s cost and inconvenience.
Ø Fuel tankers and trucks will not be allowed along the routes during the Pope’s visit. Fuel tankers and trucks from Eastern route will be diverted at Mukono via Kayunga. Those from Western route will be diverted at Busega roundabout via Northern bypass- Kalerewe roundabout- Gayaza- Kayunga
Ø All VIPs and invited guests are urged to display their stickers for quick identification and guidance
Ø Enforcement of these traffic guidelines will be in accordance with Traffic and Road Safety Act 1998.
Ø All road users are advised to adhere to the above guidelines to avoid inconveniences.
