A man accused of assaulting and robbing a woman was arrested after he tried to befriend his victim on Facebook, police say.

Riley Mullins, 28, was charged with second-degree robbery in Washington state on Friday, after allegedly stealing from a woman at a ferry terminal.

Police say the woman was listening to headphones on Tuesday, when Mullins hit her over the head, before snatching her purse and iPod then running away.

The woman described the man to cops, saying he had a distinctive triangle tattoo on his neck.

But the very next day, the woman received a shock – a Facebook friend request from a man whose photos showed the very same tattoo. She informed police and Mullins was arrested.

The woman thinks Mullins found her name from an ID card which was in her purse.

Police told local paper the Kitsap Sun: “When she saw the picture [of the suspect] she immediately recognised him as the person who assaulted her and robbed her.”

Mullins’ Facebook page is still live and open to the public – and he’s been taking quite some stick for his foolish friend request.

One user described him as a “special kind of dumb” while another branded him a “a complete moron.”
