Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic believes Uganda are frontrunners to qualify for next year’s Africa Nations Championship (Chan) in South Africa but the Serb does not believe all is done.
Uganda beat Tanzania 1-0 at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam on Saturday thanks to Denis Guma’s 48th minute strike and go into the return leg on July 27 at Namboole with a healthy advantage.
But Micho, who won his third successive competitive game as Cranes coach, believes Tanzania are still in with a fighting chance.
“It’s good we have got good results away,” said the Serb, adding, “Now we are half way to South Africa so boys we have won the battle but the war rages on.”
Micho added, joking that Uganda could have discovered the messiah they have been looking for.
“I know Tanzania has a good team with good players more so in the recent years but I remember I told you I often want to face challenges so that I can put solutions, who knows Uganda has been waiting for me to qualify for a major tournament, am the long waited messiah…”
Uganda last qualified for Nations Cup in 1978 but made the 2011 Chan held in Sudan.
