League debutants, The Saints FC and Prisons side Maroons FC will start their relegation fight today in the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL).
The Saints who recently lost the head tactician George ‘Best’ Nsimbe to defending champions Vipers SC will start their battle with a home fixture when they host Jinja based side Bul FC at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
With only 10 points and second bottom on the league table, The Saints must win the game if they are to begin reviving their hopes of staying in the topflight.
Elsewhere, Maroons FC begin their fight to stay in the league when they travel to Mwerwere stadium in Matugga to face off with home side Bright Stars.
Fred Kajoba’s side will be looking to national team players; goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya, defenders Joseph Nsubuga and Bernard Muwanga (captain) who took part in the recently conclude CHAN finals in Rwanda for inspiration.
Baker Lukooya and the likes of Anthony Bongole will be others to watch out for when they take on a bottom side who only managed one win in the entire first round of the league.
On the other hand, Maroons are without their manager Asaph Mwebaze who guided them to their promotion into the top flight but Kintu Paddy will be available to command the team.
The Luzira based side is bottom of the table with only 9 points after one win and 6 draws in the first round of the season while Bright Stars are 8th on the log.
The two sides will however meet again in the Uganda Cup at the round of 16 which will be played at Luzira stadium.
