Former Ugandan musician The Late Prince Paul Job Kafeero’s son, Kafeero Swarz, has initiated a battle against Gravity Omutujju, urging YouTube to remove Omutujju’s song “Walumbe Zaaya” from its platform.
This comes in response to Omutujju’s derogatory comments about singer and politician Bobi Wine’s rendition of Kafeero’s “Dipo Nazzigala,” which Gravity claims lacked satisfaction when Bobi Wine redid it over 12 years ago.
The conflict escalated after YouTube took down Omutujju’s video for “Edoboozi Lya Mutuuze” following a request from Bobi Wine, citing copyright infringement for sampling Bobi Wine’s “Kiwani” song without permission.
However, Gravity Omutujju now faces another copyright claim, this time from the late Kafeero’s son, Swarz.
In a Facebook post, Swarz disclosed that unlike Bobi Wine, who compensated the late musician’s family for redoing “Dipo Nazzigala,” Gravity Omutujju has not provided any financial restitution since redoing “Walumbe Zaaya.”
Swarz also criticized Omutujju for incorporating vulgar language in the song, which was absent in the original version, and for using Kafeero’s photos, videos, and voice without permission to enhance his content.
Furthermore, Swarz urged Omutujju to show humility and respect towards elders like Bobi Wine, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging one’s roots and audience.
He stated, “Always respect your humble beginnings. You know you need your audience the same way you’re running to delete the song before we even do…Beela mukakamu. Next time pay some respect to the elders.“
Consequently, Swarz and other members of the deceased musician’s family have requested YouTube to remove Gravity Omutujju’s “Walumbe Zaaya” from the platform, citing the aforementioned grievances.
