Surviving The Pope In Uganda

It’s been a long time coming, but the wait is finally over. Pope Francis arrives in Uganda on Friday 27/11/2015. Though we have anticipated his Holiness since February 2015, Ugandans may not be fully ready for the aftermath of this visit. Here are a few things to make the best of his 3 days in Uganda.

1. Stay off the roads! Traffic will be at an all-time high starting on Friday. A lot of roads will be closed for security purposes. If you’re going to work, leave extremely early. Also try to leave the office, and generally the CBD before 6pm. No unauthorized vehicles will be permitted so Bodas are your best friend!

2. Stock up! Pope Francis will be going everywhere from Namugongo to Munyonyo. Because of the heavy security detail and entourage, this will make it impossible to go anywhere. Unless you plan on being a part of the pilgrimage, stay in this weekend.

3. If you are planning to be a pilgrim, carry something warm in case El Nino decides to wreak havoc on your spiritual journey. Be sure to have enough drinking water, staying hydrated is extremely important.

4. Tweet! So many organisations are having promotions centred on the pope’s visit. Stay in the loop, you might chance upon something good! You can also tweet the Pope’s twitter handle, he is known for responding.

5. Perhaps leave it all behind. If all the craziness is too much for you, why not book a getaway on Jovago.com? The Black Friday discounts are not to be missed! After all a weekend in Jinja or Masaka might be just what the doctor ordered.
