Sodo Aine Hits the Ground Running in Mawogola North as Shartis Musherure Steps Down

The political terrain in Mawogola North has taken a decisive turn as NRM’s Sodo Aine Kaguta returns to the ground in full activation mode, hours after long-time rival Shartis Musherure Kutesa officially bowed out of the 2026 race.

Sodo, a familiar face and brother to President Museveni, is no stranger to the constituency. His grassroots approach and steady presence in community projects have earned him strong backing from local leaders and youth groups alike. This week, he kicked off his mobilization tour, meeting boda riders, women’s groups, and local farmers, with one message: “Let’s build Mawogola together.”

Shartis’ withdrawal marks the end of what many viewed as one of the most intense family-led political rivalries in the region. The 2021 race saw Sodo edge out Shartis in the NRM primaries, only for the courts to halt his momentum, citing irregularities—handing her the general election ticket. Though she contested on the NRM card, Sodo’s support remained visibly strong on the ground.

Her recent decision to step aside clears the path for Sodo to consolidate his support without a split NRM base. For many in Mawogola, it’s a long-awaited reunion with the candidate they believe never got his full chance.

With the political dust now settling, all eyes are on Sodo as he rekindles his campaign with renewed energy. His message is clear: unity, empowerment, and delivering on the promises that were put on hold.

As Mawogola gears up for 2026, one thing is certain—the race has reset, and Sodo is already several steps ahead.
